Framing of Theology

The Protestant orthodox divines of the seventeenth century believed that any dogmatic inference, as long as it was “raised” from Scripture, was as much Scripture truth as any other....Their commentary work reveals the source from which their theological conclusions were drawn. This is one clear specimen of how theology and polemics were framed in the seventeenth century. Each doctrine drawn from Scripture was shown to be consistent with the received tradition of orthodox theology and defended against opposing opinions.
