Understanding Joy

Younger Christians in particular can be misled by the dramatic transformation of the affections that takes place in regeneration—the joy of deliverance and the empowerment to obedience can be misunderstood as though sin’s presence will rarely trouble them again. Subsequently any powerful reawakening of indwelling sin may lead to the (false) conclusion that perhaps, after all, their conversion was simply another passing phase and that they have never really become Christians at all.
