The All Controlling Context
For interpreting a particular biblical text of whatever genre or length (from a single sentence to a larger discourse unit), essential is understanding its place in the history of revelation, its place within covenant history. In terms of the subject matter of the text— what the text is talking about— an all-controlling context is the redemptive- and revelational-historical context.
