Christ is the Mystery

After weighing textual and syntactical considerations, “Christ” is best understood as being in apposition to “mystery”; Christ himself is the mystery. When Paul immediately adds that in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (2: 3), in context, this is best taken as meaning that Christ is the now revealed embodiment of the wisdom and knowledge resident in him as the mystery (cf. “Christ . .  . the wisdom of God,” 1   Cor. 1: 24). 26
