Regeneration is the metaphor

contrary to the Reformed consensus, 1 in Paul the notion of having been raised with Christ does not correspond more or less exactly to the dogmatic conception of regeneration.

Notes

1
  1. The view that being raised with Christ is a metaphor for regeneration... is an inversion of Paul's way of thinking. As I Cor. 15:42ff. and Rom. 1:3f. (cf. Acts 13:33) make clear, the realistic counterpan to the natural process and binh is not new birth but resurrection. If the term regeneration is at all applicable to Paul's resurrection theology, it is the metaphor (cf. Titus 3:5).
