Spirit and Glory

The close connection between the Spirit and glory (δοξα) is not difficult to recognize. The "spiritual body" of the believer is raised "in glory" (I Cor. 15:43f.). Analogously, the body of the resurrected Christ, the "life-giving Spirit" (I Cor. 15:45) is the "body of his glory" (Phil. 3:21). The ministry of the Spirit is a ministry "in glory" par excellence (II Cor. 3:8; cf. "the surpassing glory" (v. 10). As believers behold "the glory of the Lord," who is "the Spirit," they are transformed into his image "from glory to glory," and this "as from the Lord, the Spirit" (II Cor. 3:17f.; ef. 4:4, 6). In the parallelism of I Timothy 3:16 Christ's justification "in the Spirit" is correlated with his ascension "in glory."
