The 1571 Synod of La Rochelle

The [1571] synod of La Rochelle is also known as the “synod of princes” due to the presence of all the secular leaders of the French Protestant movement. The presence of two leaders from the Netherlands, Louis of Nassau and William of Orange, who were to lead Dutch resistance to the Spanish occupation of the Netherlands, was significant for later developments in both countries.
