Clarity and Transparency

No serious defence of claritas scripturae has ever denied that there are difficulties in Scripture. Clarity is not the same as uniform simplicity or even transparency. In some cases the clear meaning of a passage is hard won, often because of factors that have little to do with a problem in the text itself.
