Dutch-English Traffic

Of particular importance was the intellectual traffic between England and the Continent, particularly Holland. From the early days of the sixteenth century, the constant uncertainty about which direction ecclesiastical policy would take in England had meant that there was an almost constant stream of exiles passing back and forth between England and the Continent, helping to import new ideas into English theological life.
