The False Interpretation of the Law
It is one thing to correct the law itself; another to clear it of the false interpretation of the scribes and Pharisees. One thing to introduce an entirely new sense into the law; another to introduce only a new light by unfolding what lay concealed in the law and was not attended to by teachers (and so by explaining, to declare; and by vindicating, to restore). Christ did the latter, not the former (Mt. 5).
