Sabbath Rest

Nonetheless it was not simply the idea, or the principle of rest, or 'Sabbath' that was enshrined from the beginning. No, from the start God 'has particularly', or specially, 'appointed one day in seven, for a Sabbath, to be kept holy unto him'. We are to 'remember the Sabbath day'. As Isaiah explained, we are blessed if we keep the day, and do not profane it; we please the Lord when we hold fast to this covenant day; and the Lord promises joy for those who celebrate his day, especially the joy of seeing him make his day and his house a kind of sanctuary for all people (Isa. 56:2, 4, 6, 7).
