Act of Faith

Faith is therefore an act, but of what? Certainly not of the body, although faith is attributed to it in its own way (Rom. 10:10; 1:8), but of the soul, for with the heart one believes (Rom. 10:10), and indeed, of the whole soul: “If you believe with your whole heart…” (Acts 8:37). For it is the first act of life, by which the whole person lives spiritually (Rom. 1:17; Gal. 2:20). Moreover, it is an act of each of the soul’s faculties—the intellect, the will, the affections, and so forth.
